Thanksgiving at The Balsams November 26 - November 30, 2008
Thanksgiving Day at The Balsams boasts an elaborate Thanksgiving buffet with a wide array of seasonal fare including salads, grilled vegetables, smoked duck, pates with apple-cranberry-onion marmalade, traditional hand-carved roast Tom turkey, medallions of black angus beef and herb-crusted cod. Freshly prepared desserts including pumpkin and pecan pie, chocolate decadence cake, warm apple crisp and assorted pastries. Family-style Bingo will be offered after the meal. On Friday afternoon, guests can create a gingerbread village, sing a carol and watch as the 2008 Balsams Christmas tree lights up for the season. Saturday afternoon's cooking class includes holiday cookie and gingerbread demonstrations.
Artisan Weekend: December 5 - December 7, 2008
This special weekend, area artists will gather at The Balsams to display their work just in time for guests to finish up (or begin!) their holiday shopping. On Saturday artists will offer workshops and demonstrations on the art of woodworking, pastels, painting, weaving, and jewelry making.
Holiday Music Weekend: December 12 - December 13, 2008
Enjoy two fantastic performances during one great holiday music weekend. On Friday night, The Lakes Region Woodwinds group will fill the John Dix Room with the sounds of the flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon and French horn. On Saturday evening enjoy the beautiful notes of acclaimed jazz pianist, Tom Snow.
Local Artisan Weekend: December 19 - December 20, 2008
More of a good thing! On this special weekend, local artists will gather at The Balsams to display their work. Area artists like Judi Calhoun, a painter and children's book author, Susan Hayward, a jewelry maker and Valerie Mahnke a talented cardmaker will be on hand to showcase their talents for guest of all ages.
Christmas Week at The Balsams: December 19, 2008 - December 25, 2008
Enjoy the festivities of Christmas at The Balsams - gingerbread decorating, ornament making, tree lighting and a visit from Father Christmas.
On Christmas Eve guests will gather in the John Dix Social Room to carol and enjoy hot chocolate and warm and chilled cider and a special Christmas Eve story-telling session. A traditional Christmas Brunch will be offered Christmas Day and will offer a wide variety of culinary delights including carving, omelet, and waffle stations, and an endless selection of pastries.
After hitting the slopes guests can enjoy a Christmas Day cocktail reception in the John Dix social room with live music by Rick Erwin.
New Year's Eve at The Balsams December 31, 2008 - January 1, 2009
Ring in the New Year in style. Christmas week will culminate with a spectacular New Year's Eve celebration. With the Notch in the background, guests will enjoy a breathtaking fireworks display followed by a guest reception, grand dinner buffet, and dancing in the ballroom.
